I know that people may think I’m crazy for giving you a name, but I don’t care. You deserve one. Especially after this past week. You have shined. You have smiled. You have welcomed strangers warmly and whispered sweet nothings to them as they walked your halls. As potential buyers imagined you as their own, you held your head high and promised them home.
And it has been worth it, for in a mere 6 days you have managed to do what other houses have only dreamed of: you convinced someone else to fall in love with you and to sign a contract stating their intentions with you.
I know today is a tough day, as you are being picked, prodded, analyzed and pushed to your limits by that house inspector. He wants to see what you’ve got, girl. Show him! You can do it, I know you can.
Thank you for all your hard work. Thank you for the home you have so graciously been for our family. I hope you can forgive us for leaving you, but our relationship seems to have run its course.
You’ve done good, girl. You’ve done real good.
Your loving owner,
Emily

Dear Sophie Marie –
You are beautiful! I hope the love that your walls know only continues to grow as you get older. I hope your next owner realizes your beauty and cherishes your character.
love, a friend
Screeeeeeeaaaaaam!!!! Sooooo happy for you and your beautiful home! I promise she’ll always feel like yours, even if you can’t walk in the front door without being arrested. And just think of all the memories to be made in the new house!
And I have to let you know that your chic critique post had me laughing till it hurt. You two are like Ethel and Lucy
! Loved it!
“That farewell kiss which resembles greeting, that last glance of love which becomes the sharpest pang of sorrow.” George Eliot
How amazingly wonderful and sad at the same time. Sophie Marie served you well and I’m sure that she will love the new footsteps that will fill her once again.
Has the new home been given a proper name, or did I miss that? I think due to her fine age, great bones, and hidden splendor, she would do so well with an old strong name. I’ll withhold giving suggestions as not to confuse your head as the new home speaks to you. Congrats, again!!
OK, I must be the only sap on here today. Your “tribute” made me cry. Pitiful? I think NOT! Congrats on getting an offer so fast!
Congratulations!!!!! I am so happy for you and Sophie Marie. 6 Days …that NEVER would have happened in Asheboro – houses sit on the market for like a year here, so we might be in trouble when we go to sell ours, but she’s really really cute too. Just remember you’re “movin on up”!
That was so sweet. Can you write a letter about me next? Now, you need to name your new house. But, sometimes I cannot figure out a houses name until I live there awhile.
Our house on Baytree was Belinda.
I think this house is Ashley.
Sophie Marie-
I’ve never seen you in person, but your Mom has made me love you just by writing about you. She has made me want to move from SC to NC to try to put in a higher bid than the other person. Never mind that we just built a new house and we would have no jobs or friends where you are. By the way, I L-O-V-E the white frames on your wall. That grouping looks amazing!! I hope your new owners will love you as much as your current Mom does. Have a good life!!
I’m freakishly hormonal right now (NO, I AM NOT PREGNANT) and this post made me cry. I’m so glad you got a contract on your house. Where I live, houses are sitting on the market for YEARS.
OK, that made me sad. I can’t imagine leaving my house even though I’ve only lived here for two years:( I’m sure the new owners will take good care of her!
Emily! We are so excited for you guys! 6 days is awesome! The Lord has been good to you guys – and I’m sure Sophie Marie will have fun with her new owners!
See you tonight.
I am a new reader. Are you selling Sophie because she was too small?
There are several reasons we had to sell Sophie.
1. She WAS too small. I guess we could have made her work (3 bedrooms…the twins share a room anyway). But the man is a youth pastor and to have teenagers over and mom and dad visit from out of town…well, there wasn’t a lot of extra room.
2. We wanted to be on a different side of town. We love Sophies side of town, we just don’t really “do life” over here anymore.
3. Ever since my sister The Nester moved from this neighborhood to another city, its been a bit lonely round these parts. I know this alone isn’t really enough to move. But it kind of is.
Why did I just write a novel about that?
I love your tribute to your ‘old’ house. I could have written one of those for my first little crackerbox of a house. All 5 of us in the 975 square feet, and I loved it!!!
This one though, I will skip out of and not look back. Not that it hasn’t served us well, just that I don’t love it.
I hope the next one is as sweet as your new one… I love everything about it- well, everything you’ve done so far anyway
Emily,
Congratulations!!!!! We also have our place on the market – six days rocks! I pray that Sophie Marie (how elegant is her name? Sigh…ours is more of a Jim Bob, okay not really, LOL) is blessed into the hands of loving new owners. I saw the photos of your too-awesome kitchen over at Mrs. Wilt’s place – just had to stop by and say hello to the mind behind such a beautiful home!
Have a wonderful weekend, chickie!
I must be seriously hormonal … I just bawled through that entire post.
I’ve never named my house…..hmmmm….
We’ve named clocks, chairs, shoes, etc. but never our houses. We need to start!
Oh I love this post. Today my hubby watched the movers pack my beloved home in Virginia to move all of our stuff to Texas. I feel so sad. I was so connected to that home. I never thought of writing a letter. Very cute.
