the monster has left the building

How to get rid of Monster Mommy in 6 easy steps:

First, recruit backup. A Nana is perfect for the job.

Next, give them a Popsicle anyway, even if they didn’t eat their lunch.

Then, take one of these to wash off the Monster smell. Do not skip this step.

Don’t forget to have one of these. Or, if Monster Mommy is really mean, have two.

Also, be sure to notice the peonies blooming in your front yard. Monster Mommy can’t prevail in their presence.

Finally, remember…you are loved anyway.

Repeat if necessary.

  7. elaine @ peace for the journey says:

    Dear Monster Mommy…

I think you should take your own advice, and once doing so, realize that you are well-qualified to make a trip to Charlotte in a few weeks!

Sometimes we just need a little perspective in the matter. I’m going to walk through these steps myself and realize that at the end of the day, what matters most in this life are…

hugs and family and cleanliness and chocolate…

all rooted and anchored in the truth of God’s Word.

And the word you’ve so aptly depicted? Perfect for calming fears and scripting the truth of what our Father delights to do on our behalf.

    To be with us.
    To save us.
    To delight in us.
    To quiet us.
    To love us.
    To rejoice over us.
    (Zephaniah 3:17).

With that in mind, let us pack our bags in full confidence, knowing the One who awaits our arrival and who has called us his bride. Everything else is just icing.

    Can’t wait to meet you.

    peace~elaine

I’m so glad that you sent Mommy Monster packing. Unfortunately, she found her way over to my house today. I haven’t been this grumpy in a long time.

I feel like a bit of a dork because I even grumped on my blog. I could delete it but but hey, that’s me today.

And thanks for the instructions. The kids just went to sleep and I think I’m going to start with step #6.

    Thanks!

I live in Charlotte and listen to your dad all the time on 91.9, but didn’t know he had two daughters!! (Very creative and talented daughters!)

I’m going to bookmark you and visit here more often! :)

Have a great week! Bye-bye to Monster Mommy!

  22. Sarah says:

Thanks for visiting my blog and for your comments, Emily. It means the world to be able to be honest about what we’re feeling in light of the miscarriage, and to be loved and prayed for by friends right now.

I feel a bit like Monster Teacher since all of this has happened. Your last few posts (including the graduation one) was such a gentle reminder that I need to let Jesus love through me as I spend the last 8 days of school with my precious first graders.

  23. Tracey says:

Welcome back precious mommy. I will refer to these instructions as needed, and bless you for sharing them!

  24. Mandy & Michael says:

This is the cutest how to guide I’ve read in awhile. I will definately be adding these instructions to my scrapbook as a ‘friendly’ reminder and for my daughter to use in the future, thanks!

  42. Jen says:

I am so going to have to remember this but I think that I might need 3 chocolates and maybe a little wine ;)

  43. Vicki is Not So SAHM says:

Oooh, Monster Mommy has been rearing her ugly head a little too often around here recently. Homeschooling tends to do that to my bloodpressure.

The pastor spoke yesterday about God’s mercy and grace and how they’re new every morning. When I remember what Jesus went through for me I can have the strength to get through my monsterness of the day.

Thanks for the tips! I like the chocolate part.

  44. Debbie Y. says:

I absolutely adore the six degrees of separation you devised to rid yourself of being Monster Mommy, I needed these way back when (mine is 22). My DD will say Monster Mommy was a permanent fixture in her house. The monster smell can permeate the whole house and leave your nostrils singed it seems like forever. Love it! Love it! Love it! Keep posting even if you are preaching to the choir.

  45. Hot Tub Lizzy says:

    oh that was beautiful!

Thank you for the reminders and the helps!

  46. Shanna says:

Well said! I especially like the chocolate part :)

  47. mrsmouthy says:

That’s very sweet. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel like a grandma rather than a mom for all some of the tactics I employ. :)

  48. Casey's trio says:

How come it looks easier than it really is sometimes? And why di I end up eating the whole box of chocolates instead of just one or two?

  49. Be-Frazzled Mom says:

Great tips. Especially the part where you recruit help!

  50. EmBee says:

You really ARE a fabulous photographer!

I once put myself in time-out and completely freaked my kids out by doing so.
    :-)

  51. Lori says:

That’s a wonderful post. Simple, sweet, and to the point. And the pictures are delightful, especially the first two! :)

  52. Shannon says:

    Very sweet.

I’ve been finding myself turning into Monster Mommy more and more lately… maybe now that school has started and the kiddos are out of my hair for six hours each day Monster Mommy won’t be making as many appearances as she has been!!!

  53. Kelly Deneen says:

    What a sweet post!

    And Happy SITS day!

  54. Rhea says:

That was so cute and so super sweet! We all have that monster inside that occasionally rips loose. Unfortunately, but we wouldn’t be human if we didn’t.

I love your site, it has such a cute, colorful design!

Oh I love this. What a great post.

  58. Jenni says:

I have no monster mommy currently, but I am taking these steps anyway!

  59. Melissa Lester says:

Thanks for this one. Reading a post like this might keep Monster Mommy at bay.

  60. Tiffany says:

The chocolate is definitely helpful. A little wine helps this mommy monster on occasion as well.

You are such a pleasure to read!

  61. Cassie says:

Very nice post. If it were me though, I’d probably have to have a whole box of chocolates haha.

  62. -Bridget says:

Ok, I’m writing these down and taking notes. One question, what flavor chocolates are those, exactly? I want to make sure I get everything precisely right. I’m afraid that a nougat filled one will have a different effect than a raspberry creme filled one. Maybe I should just eat the whole box for good measure?

  63. Becky :) says:

Okay, I totally took notes there and plan to post them where necessary in my house. I’m positive that my kids will appreciate it!!!

    Thanks for sharing!!

  64. nikkicrumpet says:

funny thing is…even though mine are 25,26 and 27…there is still sometimes a mommy monster. Thanks for the brilliant solutions!

  65. EmmaP says:

Wow! I am so glad I read your how-to guide. My little ones were almost eaten alive this past weekend, at the hands of Monster Mommy. I am definitely going to implement those this weekend when we go to Nana’s!!! Btw, is there a money-back guarantee??? hee-hee

  66. mrsbear says:

Monster mommy creeps up around here too. Thanks for the tips.

I love this! I hate monster mommy, but sometimes we don’t have enough popsicles…or chocolate. ;)

  68. Mrs. S says:

I love this post! I’ll need to revisit it often as my little guy grows up. It’s amazing how I can get so upset and frustrated (or downright angry) with him…and he’s so beautiful and sweet and part of me. Thank you!

    Happy SITS day.

  69. Cathy says:

    Great tips!!!

Mine is always happy with cheetos.
