I will be posting more about SheSpeaks in the days to come. Some of you have asked for more details on the conference and I would be ever so glad to share them with you. For now, I simply had to reveal another unpacking treasure, as it has been my traveling companion for several weeks now.Enough with the Glamour Gals and Barbie turkeys, I’ve finally found a treasure that is worth more than sentiment. When we bought our camera last year, it came with 2 lenses. I used the 18-55 lens because it was more practical. Somehow, this 55-200 lens got pushed into the sock drawer. And then disappeared forever.
Or so I thought.
Until Alisa showed up one day with her zoom lens and I saw the photos she took with it and all of a sudden, I couldn’t sleep until I found that lens. Which was bad because I couldn’t find that lens. But then we moved. And everything turns up when you move.
Allow me to demonstrate the wonderful-ness that is the zoom lens. This was the view from my seat at a dance recital. With treasure #4, I can see faces, fingers and expressions.
Then there’s the wedding. It is always a waste to take photos during wedding ceremonies. First, the lighting is rarely good. Then, there’s all the heads. Not to mention I’m never close enough. This was our view at a wedding recently. Can you even see the bride and groom? Pull out the zoom lens, and they magically appear.
I watched nearly the entire wedding with one eye squeezed shut, looking through my viewfinder, snapping photos as I went. I felt like a spy. A friendly, invited spy. But still.
I’m so glad I found this treasure lens!

gasp! that is amazing!
*concentrating on not breaking commandment number ten*
Oh man, I need a zoom lens! I’ve been preparing/telling my husband that we need a new camera, and your pictures help! He won’t care that you could see hands at the recital, but I sure do! Nice find!
Wow. Me thinks I want a new camera now. And, whatever photography school you and the Nester went to–I want in. Your photos are fabulous–no exaggeration
Oh Golly.
See. My dear husband had me listen to one of The Nester’s favorite writers last year just after I declared I wanted a NICE camera – and since then we have been gazelle intense and your pictures make me recall those days of gazing longingly at the Best Buy ads…oh wait. That was just yesterday.
Whatev.
LOVE your photos.
And your comments (*smile*)
Oh. And I am way not computer savvy. I’ll have to figure out the email thing.
But your friend Kendra’s scones were LOVELY! My SIL enjoyed them after baby!
Wow! Fun post! I love the before and afters of your zoom lens! What a HUGE difference! We definitely need to save up for a zoom lens. I know it would come in handy, often! Look at the magic you can use it for!
very cool! lenses are definitely a treasure that i hope to collect more of very soon.
Wow! That ballerina picture is awesome! They both look professional.
I’m just so glad that you didn’t use that zoom lens on my face at the restaurant- or did you? Some things just aren’t meant to be zoomed!
Our camera was stolen in our recent move across country. I’d love to know the name of your camera!! I’m dying (well, not really but getting close somedays when I see what I think would be a really great shot) without my camera and this time I just want a GREAT one.
Thanks!
Sallie

Aubry, I went to my sister’s photography school. She picks out my camera and tells me how to use it.
People, she is seriously talented in the photography department as well as the piano playing department–i mean, big time here {she’s an incredibly passionate piano player which I think is rare for women} she’s the photographer that I wish could have taken my wedding photos, and as we all have seen a glimps of, she can write.
She spells grate too.
I heart my sister. She’s sitting right behind me on the sofa as I type this.
I want to be a good picture taker…I was so jealous of Lee and Stacey’s camera when they were here…one day….
We bought our camera and zoom lens just to take photos of daughter doing color guard and baseball. Before, you really couldn’t tell which was mine or what they were doing, now, boom, you have an up close view. I like to take photos and then zoom in to see people’s expressions. We have some funny ones.
Oh, how I want another camera. I’ve been shopping around, but seriously know next to nothing about them. I’m working on my husband, so maybe by Christmas?
That’s amazing how much that lens improved the shot. Beautiful pictures!
I need to take a photography class. With four kids, I need killer pictures and I don’t know how to work my camera. The manual is confusing.
I love that you watched the wedding through your lense. Much less conspicuous than binoculars.
I love to zoom zoom!! It is my favorite lense to use. Great for action shots – which with kids there is a bunch of those!!
Yeah, those zoom lenses are great. Until you’re trying to take a picture of your moving child and can’t fit anything other than their ear into the veiwfinder thingy. Oh, maybe that’s not the lenses fault… maybe my house is just too small for a zoom lense!
I am amazed at the zoom – I (who have only experienced the basic point and shoot camera zooms) had no idea you could zoom that far. And since I have already used the word zoom 4 times in this short comment, I will add a few more for good measure – zoom, zoom, zoom!
Great pics! So glad that you found treasure #4, I couldnt liuve with myself had you not.
I love finding something I’ve searched high and low for. And I am so the same way when I get my mind set on finding something…it drives me crazy till I find it!
I need a zoom so in the future everyone isn’t squinting at my pictures wondering what in the world we are looking at:-)
Wow! What a HUGE difference that makes! My hubby is the photographer in our family…I am getting better though
Now that is certainly a treasure indeed.
I used to have a camera like that…I loved the way it clicked when I took the picture. But then it broke and I got digital which now leaves me with a very small camera with a boring “click.” BUT it is digital and to me that’s PRICELESS!
Love ya!!
Wow, that is amazing. My camera is a cheap little Fuji. Maybe I should start saving up. Mine is like have a second off when you push the button, so you never get a picture of what you meant too.
ugh…amazing.
Beautiful.
I’m saving for mine.
A good zoom lens is good for the soul! I’ve watched many a sporting event with one eye!
Your photos, as usual, are lovely. Just not fair for one person to get so much talent!!!
amazing zoom! i sure wish my cam was that good
your zoom really is amazing. now you can spy on all kinds of stuff, like birds, or people at the park! (jk- about the people). what great pictures! i’m glad you loved the conference so much- and i’m always happy to find an office fan.
Hi! I came across your blog, and I LOVE it! Just thought I’d say Hi!
Have a great week!
Heidi
Sigh. I dream of the day when I will have a camera with multiple lenses. For now I’ll keep loving my Kodak z740.
Where is the playlist? I miss the music!!!
wow… embarassed to say I’ve been please and satisfied with my 10X zoom Lumix, but now… hmmm… how many more days til Christmas? Birthday, Anniversary, Valentines, President’s Day?
