I really hope you all don’t hate photo posts. Because I’m totally doing one today. And something else about me: I cannot mix black and white photos with color photos. If I ever put photos in an album or on a wall, there is to be no mixing. That’s just me.
As I’ve mentioned before, my friend Alisa hired me to be her second shooter for a wedding at the beach (don’t we totally sound like assassins?) These are some of my favorite color photos from that day.
I’m including this one mainly to show you that on the Southeast coast, we have grass on our beaches. Aren’t we cute? Alisa is from California and she didn’t believe it until she saw it with her own eyes.
Alisa was the main photographer so she had all the responsibility. I just got to have fun. Which is why I had time to take this photo of a guest just before the wedding. I kind of want to be her.
I really like the angle of this photo, but I also wanted to share with you our dilemma that evening: the sunset. Notice the giant standing in the back? Her shadow was basically in the center aisle the entire time.
This lucky groom didn’t have to wear a tux or even shoes. Here’s a wide angle shot from the back. The psychology of groups is fascinating to me. There were 30 folding white chairs set up, obviously not enough for everyone. Turns out, most of the chairs remained empty because nobody wanted to take up a chair.
Detail shot of her dress. I had to include this one. I love a bride who isn’t worried about a little sand on her train.Speaking of sand and details, here is Emily trying to be cool and artsy. I was focusing on the sand on purpose, but it sort of just looks like a blurry bride and groom. Still, I can’t help myself. I kind of like it.
Don’t you love it when a groom dips his bride for the kiss? I sure do.
They were chatting with guests after the ceremony and I paparazzied around them like a fool to get this shot.
The sun was setting at the perfect time, just when we were finishing up with the photos of the family. The reception was in a cool building in downtown Wilmington right across the street from where Dawson’s Creek filmed the one where Pacy bought Joey a wall. Yes, we did go back the next day and take photos in front of “the wall”.
This one may be my most favorite of the color shots. A perfect way to end a wedding: with friends and fire. And with that last photo, I realize all of my favorite colors only show the back of the brides’ head. I’ll have to rethink that in the black and whites.

i love photo posts! those are beautiful. do you live that close to the beach? your beaches are wonderful.
Those are fantastic. I’ve said it before, but I don’t mind saying it again. I am so thankful that you shared your pictures of my wedding with me. You are wonderful at capturing the simple, special and quiet moments…a hug from a friend, a touch, a smile…that we might have forgotten otherwise! Love it.
Ok, the pics are pretty…but I am so excited that you saw the Pacey and Joey wall. Really! That makes me happy. And I am surprised you didn’t call me up right away like the time you saw Katie Holmes in the airport!
Great job as always Emily. You captured so much from their day. Even though I don’t know them, I’m positive they’ll love the pictures.
I an only imagine you paparazzi around them to get the shot. They will be so glad you did, because that will surely be one framed for the wall.
I love your photo posts! You have such a wonderful eye (well, two eyes I’m assuming) for capturing interesting and beautiful moments. Those pictures will be treasured.
I chuckled when I saw the dress in the sand shot. When I got married, my photographer wanted to do some kind of artsy shot with my dress. Only he didn’t want me in the dress. So he took it outside and hung it in a tree before I got dressed. The shot looked goofy. Kind of like a headless white ghost hanging in a tree.
Then he neglected to mention that there was a big mud smear on the hem. Man, he was lucky that I wan’t a psycho bridezilla.
I like the sand picture!! An amateur photographer myself, the blurriness of the subject sometimes makes for a nice picture, and in this case it certainly did!!
Your pictures are beautiful! I’m sure the bride will love how you captured all the little details of the day. i think the one of the sand is really neat!
I totally agree with you about not mixing color photos with black and white ones. I have several pictures in the sepia color throughout our house and my daughter says she feels like she is color blind. She obviously doesn’t appreciate the “look” I’m going for. I love them though and I love the consistency of the look and how they seem to draw your eye to the person in the picture, not the colors.
Thanks for sharing the photos!
Her dress looks amazing. How romantic to get married on the beach. If I could go back in time, I’d go get married on the beach with just a few people. *SIGH* Maybe I just need a vacation…
The sunset picture is gorgeous! And I love the dip – ahhhh, a man that can dip! I’m sure they loved the pictures – great job!
I love these photos you took! You’re quite talented…I’m just a photographer wanna be! I’m sure the bride will love these pics, especially the shot of them holding hands–some of my fav pics are when you don’t see people’s faces at all…they’re timeless that way
.
Blessings,
Stacey
I love your photos, so a photo post is great! What a beautiful beach wedding.

Love these shot you have a gift !
Beautiful pictures and beautiful wedding! My husband proposed to me on Wrightsville beach so I have a soft spot in my heart for Wilmington! We try to go back often. Some day we will retire there!

Great photos. You captured some lovely moments. I think a small wedding like that is so much more special than these massive groups. It just seems more intimate and real. I hope they have a long and happy life together!
Great photos! You did an awesome job!
Love the pictures and the unique style that you have. The snapshot sort of pictures that the photographer took at my daughter’s wedding ended up being our favorite! What a beautiful place too. I absolutely adore the beach and would love to go back again before I die!! I’ve only been there once 12 years ago when we went to Disneyland.
Beautiful photos, beautiful bride. You did an excellent job!

Beautiful! I too love photo posts as you might know if you’ve ever visited my blog. I even shed a tear or two for this couple I will never know. I think that means your photos really captured the emotion of the event. Thank you so much for sharing them.
That couple is so lucky to have those photos…so much more fun than the standard posed photos. I love that last one especially, it is just perfect.

I love the photos! They turned out great. I can't wait to see the b&w pictures!! What a lucky bride and groom to have you capturing their big day!
I love photo posts and yours are beautiful. Could you do my wedding, that is if I weren’t already married and lived closer?
Oh the paparazzied one is my very favorite! I love love love it when people are good sports about photogeeks! (speaking of myself only of course) I can’t wait to see the black and whites!
It looks like it was a beautiful, intimate day of joy with family & friends!
Aw, one request…could you please share the photos of "the wall"? I was definitely a huge Dawson's Creek fan, and I may not be the only one!
I thoroughly enjoyed your photo post–kind of like I was a guest at the wedding too.
You have a great eye for interesting poses and details.
I recently stumbled across your blog and wanted to say hello. So, hello!
Gorgeous photos…
What a beautiful wedding! I have second-shot a couple myself, and its always really fun! Way more fun than ever doing one by myself, let me tell you! LOL
Great wedding pictures. And the comments are what made the post great!
Who does not like photos in blogs?
Have a great day!
These are beautiful photos. I had a beach wedding and this brings back all those sweet memories.
Your friend is lucky to have such talented paparazzi in her inner circle. Very very nice!!
Great photos! They make me want to…
1. Attend a wedding.
2. Get some time alone with my honey.
3. Go to a beach on the southeast coast.
and
Beautiful photo’s, beautiful day. Talk about every girls dream . . . barefoot on the beach for your wedding day. At least it would be a dream for me!
I so agree about not color with black & white! They are both nice, but not together.
I also was wondering if you never took the bride's face because you were the second "shooter?" Thought maybe you were assigned the back and the first shooter got the front…
That was SUCH a perfect wedding! Grassy beach, exposed brick walls—-SIGH! You did an AMAZING job! I loved all of them—including the clear sand/blurry everything else. They all just told such a story! Bravo!
And I had to add that I loved your post on Jen as well. She’s been a fun commenter on my blog, and I love that I now get to put you two together. No wonder I liked her so much
!
these are just beautiful. wonderful shots!
Great pics…I have an editing program that can take that giant in the sand aisle right out if you want.
I can’t mix the black and white with the color either.
I love the picture of them holding hands.
And, the wall. Seriously, you might now be one of my heros.
Oh Love the photos! And I am with you. I cannot mix the two!
What great pics – whata happy day!
A very beautiful wedding and I love all the special touches that ya’ll captured.
