in the quiet

quiet

Rest of heart and soul cannot be put at the end of my to-do list. Especially the kind that involves quiet and thinking, praying and time. Lately when I longed without words for more time in the day, a small miracle happened: I woke up before the sun. Turns out there’s a whole lotta day hanging out in the dark. It is starting to become my favorite.

Do you have a small miracle you would like to share with us today? I would love to read about it and I know there is a growing number of faithful women who would love to read about it, too. You Tuesday Unwrappers bring smiles and encouragement into my week. I am thankful for you.

Simply link up below with the permalink to the post you would like to share with us and link back here. To find out more, here is an explanation of what Tuesdays here are all about.

  1. My favorite time of the day is early morning, sun still working on rising, kids all sleeping, and I settle in front of my computer with a steamy cup of coffee. Ahhhhhh :)

  2. Dawn says:

i love that… a whole lotta day hanging out in the dark! it is my best time… friday i was up before the sun, painting a bathroom, and most other days i am out walking and giggling with a girlfriend. those dark hours are precious…

  3. Jenn says:

I love this…I too am much happier when I wake before the sun and gain those precious moments to sit, reflect, pray, and prepare for the day!

  4. Chele says:

Waking up early is my favorite thing! If it doesn’t happen and I sleep in my day is a wreck!

  5. I’m so with you on the waking up early. It’s the best time to find rest for the soul, even if it comes at the expense of rest for the body. Glad you’ve found that quiet place and time to recharge, and to put it at the beginning of your to do list.

  6. Abbie says:

I can’t seem to wake before the kids – baby at 4 or 5 a.m. and bigger girls by 6! But I sure do love the quiet moments I get.

  7. deb says:

    Oh , I love the mornings…
I’m linking to my 1000 gifts post , as I am still resting in the gratitude. Hope that is okay, as I truly feel this was a miracle to unwrap .

  8. Christie says:

That rocking chair looks very inviting!

  9. Sarah says:

I greatly enjoy these Tuesday posts. :) My days go much more smoothly if I get a few moments to myself in the early morning. My children are early (early!!) risers, so the moments aren’t long, but they are precious.

  10. Richella says:

    Dear Emily,

As usual, your Tuesdays Unwrapped moment is a huge blessing to me. “Rest of heart and soul cannot be put at the end of my to-do list.” I am writing that little nugget down to ponder in my heart.

My contribution today was hard for me to write, but I wanted to write it. To be honest I am a little scared to share it, and yet it feels good to do so. Thank you for providing the space and grace to let me share it.

    Blessings,
    RIchella

  11. Today I share with you the birth of my son, who happen to come into this world the morning of my own birthday. Most certainly his little life is one of the best gifts the Lord has given me – what a miracle it is to be able to wake each morning to the noises and faces of my precious boys.

Oh and for goodness sakes Emily, please publish something! I would love to purchase even just a sampling of your words :) I especially loved today’s thoughts:

I woke up before the sun. Turns out there’s a whole lotta day hanging out in the dark. It is starting to become my favorite.

Ah, and so true it is. Happy Tuesday all!

  12. Ah…words to lift the soul!
Please remind me when I hit the snooze button for the 4th time. :)
    Miss you, my friend!!

  13. Sharone says:

How right you are about that quiet time! When I put it at the head of the to-do list, all the other things on my list go so much more peacefully. :)

Tuesday is my favorite day of the week, and I’m grateful to you for it.

  14. Erin says:

I struggle with getting up early to spend that sweet quiet time alone– but boy, oh boy, does my day go a lot more smoothly when I do. Thanks for the reminder– and the challenge. :)

  15. Jen says:

Thanks for the opportunity to slow down and sit quiet. A house bursting with four kids and two dogs is not quiet often, and so even just a moment of quiet is precious. I am linking today with a time lapse post:: July 13th, 2006-09. My baby is three now, and I know I will find a fellow mama here to share in the bittersweetness of babies growing up. Enjoy this day!!

  16. Kellye says:

By far, my favorite time of day. Especially when I wake up with enough energy to actually enjoy the pristine quiet.

  17. Teri from Indiana says:

You wanted to know about miracles in our lives today?
Well, I have a biggie. I mean if I wasn’t so afraid of heights I would be shouting this one from my rooftop right now. We had a foster baby placed with us a little over a year ago. Darling little 4 pound 14 ounces baby boy, 8 days old. Picked him at the NICU at a local hospital. It was love at first sight for me. BUT we have already adopted 8 other children, I’m not exactly in my 30′s anymore and I promised my husband if I could take this one last baby to foster we would stop fostering as soon as he was returned home. 25 years is long enough to do this. God has held this baby through drug withdrawl, heart surgery, a few visits with his mother. My husband kept telling me not to get attached. Well, guess what? My husband prayed during his heart surgery, telling God that he would be here for The Little Man for as long as he needed us. Now those two are best buds and I am just the bottle warmer, diaper changer when Daddy is around. Today we got word that his Mother & Father are terminating their rights and we get to adopt him.
I didn’t know I needed or wanted to be a new mommy again at my age. I didn’t know I wanted to be blessed by this amazing special little boy. But Praise God! HE knew I needed it, wanted it & so graciously has opened that door one more time for us.

  18. Thea says:

Reading these stories makes for warm fuzzies all over. Teri in Indiana- hugs to you! Thanks for sharing that God WANTS to bless us with things that we didn’t even know we wanted. My heart has truly melted a little more tonight from reading your post. Thanks.

  19. I love this idea! Thank you so much for inviting me to join you today, I will definitely be back for next time, too.

  20. Jami says:

Emily I love that you posted this today. I was actually going to post a very similar one but then didn’t get to it. But today my house was a mess – but I knew that I’d be a mess if I didn’t spend time with my Lord – on my front porch – just resting with Him, loving Him, and learning from Him! Way to put 1st things 1st! He blesses us so much when we do!

Love you! And hey, do you have any specific prayer requests as you prepare for She Speaks? You just let me know if you do.

  21. Hopefull says:

I love the early morning hours – unfortunately, I am out of the routine. My flesh fails me.

  22. dawn says:

I stink at early mornings…and when life gets busy, my quiet time falls off the end of the list even though I am convinced of it’s necessity for my soul. I love how you started your post. I’m convicted and inspired.

  23. Bee says:

That “whole lotta day hanging out in the dark” is my favorite part, too. It’s quiet. No animals needing to be fed and watered. No husband needing coffee. Just me and God and our talks. I love it.

I love your rocking chair, too.
