more and microphones

More Conference

I was in Charlotte this weekend for the More conference I told you about last week. Or maybe it was two weeks ago. I can’t keep track, what with all these kids of mine going off to kindergarten.

emily and nester

My sister and I did one of the breakout sessions where we talked about how to turn the house you have right now into the house you’ve always wanted. I promise I’m not singing there. I know it looks like I am. I’m still kind of amazed that people let me have a microphone. But microphones and I have been getting to know each other better lately. Did you know if you write ‘microphone’ enough, it starts to feel like you maybe might have made the whole word up?

Seriously, the real reason people came to the conference was because of Lysa Terkeurst. Clearly.

Lysa TerKeurst

She is fantastic with the microphone. So fantastic, in fact, that she wears one of those special Secret Service microphones. See it all camouflaged up there by her cute face? It was skin colored and everything. If you ever have a chance to hear Lysa tell her story, microphone or no microphone, I highly recommend it. Really hard stuff + honesty + brokenness + Jesus = a powerful story of new life bursting forth from painful death. I just love that girl.

I look forward to getting back into the swing of things here at home. Especially on Tuesdays. I have missed unwrapping Tuesdays with you. Let’s start it again. Join me next week, September 8 with a grateful heart as you take time to notice the gifts in the midst of the ordinary. I can’t wait.

  1. I’m a big fan of the secret service microphone. We always called it the Brittany Spears Mic because she was the first one that I remember having it and we thought she was so new-fangled, etc. But hers was black, I believe. So Lysa has kicked it up a notch. She’s so good at that!
I’m sure y’all had a wonderful presentation! Wish I could have heard it!

i am thinking that before you know it, you will have one of those secret service mics yourself! i hope that with each turn at the microphone, it is getting easier :)

i am looking forward to spending tuesdays with you again! i have missed it, and tuesdays just don’t seem the same without all of the wonderful tuesday friends!

I’m bummed that I forgot about this! I was supposed to be traveling, was going to miss it, but our whole trip got rearranged so I was free this weekend. But I forgot. :-( Just so you know, though, I would totally have gone for a chance to meet you!

It was so good to see you again, brief though it was. The conference was such a blessing for my desperate soul!

I’ll be looking forward to Tuesdays. Hope you have a great week!

Just let me tell you, ladies, that Emily and her sidekick Nester were fabulous, as always. Funny, cute, and loaded with lots of decorating wisdom. I tried to snag some of their adorable “props”, but darn….they were the real items they use in their real houses.
And, P.S., Lysa was amazing as well.

  7. Erin says:

I sometimes think it would be fun to wear a microphone like that just around– you know, to the grocery store with my kids or whatever– just to make people wonder. :)

I’m so happy about Tuesdays Unwrapped coming back. I have missed it.

  8. hey emily — next tuesday I am putting my kids on the school bus for the first time, after three years of homeschooling. i have to go to work! i look forward to sharing the day with you on tuesdays unwrapped…

  9. Terri says:

  10. Jennifer P. says:

I would love to hear you and Nester talk one day…somehow you make decorating your home and living your daily life much more relevant than just decorating your home and living your daily life. Love to you :)

  11. julie says:

thanks for the link! i cant wait to read all about her! good for you and that mic! looking forward to unwrapped tuesday!

  12. Angela says:

So good to have you back. :)

  13. Oh, how I wish that I could have seen you singing/signing/speaking with that mike, but you should have just come next door…you wouldn’t have had to use the mike…mine was never turned on…although i did feel like I had to scream the whole time, which was not good at all. :)

  14. Richella says:

    Hi sweet Emily–

How good that God provided this conference to think about last week, else it might have been easy simply to think about yourself and that little empty space in your nest all day each day.

So how are you? How are your kindergartners?

So glad you’re reinstating TU, and it’s obvious from these comments that others feel the same.

    You’re a treasure.

    Love,
    Richella

  15. Boy Crazy says:

How have you been surviving kindergarten? My son starts tomorrow…we’ll see how we do!

Thanks for the links, I’ll be sure to check them out.

  16. Logan says:

What a pleasure it was to see you and The Nester live and in person on Saturday. And I wouldn’t have even known about that conference had both of you not mentioned it on your blogs! It was a spontaneous decision on my part to announce to my better half that I wanted to drive to Charlotte and attend. It was a terrific and inspirational 24 hours away from home for me, hearing Lysa and enjoying the two of you in your presentation. The only thing I would have changed is to have allowed us to attend both break out sessions, back to back. Oh well, we can’t have it all. Thanks again for recommending this great experience. It was definitely worth my time and $$$ to make the trip! Emily, I was the one who came up to you at the back of the room when you were turning in your “not so Secret Service” microphones after your presentation.

  17. thea says:

Looking forward to TU again…I didn’t realize how much I missed it!

  18. Teresa says:

Sounds like a great conference….and her story is so good.

  19. I’m sure your session was fabulous! Y’all are great together with a mic. :-)
