a thankful heart will be our rhythm

The volume of normal life chaos was turned down over the weekend as I traveled alone to the wedding. In its place was real music from my iPod, uninterrupted by backseat fighting or endless mental checklists.

thankful

There I was in the drive-thru line at Chic-fil-a, waiting for my biscuit, when one of my favorite Waterdeep songs began to play. I sang along out of habit until the quiet car allowed space for me to hear the chorus again, as if for the first time.

A thankful heart prepares the way for you my God…Come fall on us, we fall on You
A thankful heart will be our rhythm. Come fall on us, we fall on You, A thankful heart will be our song

And it wasn’t even a Tuesday. Isn’t that what happens with a thankful heart? The way is prepared for God to show up. Not as if He isn’t already here. Just that it can be hard to notice in the midst of the heavy mess.

That is what we do in this space on Tuesdays and I am happy for the re-discovery of these lyrics so I could have another perspective on the importance of cultivating a thankful heart. For complete details on how to link up, please see this post.

    That photo is breathtaking….

  5. “A thankful heart will be our rhythm.” I love that. It’s easy to get caught in a whiney white noise rather than to purpose our hearts to beat with thanks. Thanks for sharing this rediscovered gift with us, and as always, for providing this place to share our gifts with each other.

  6. Richella says:

I learned the hard way that a grumbling heart provides a rhythm, too–but it is a rhythm that pushes us and jerks us around and doesn’t allow us to dance at all; we can only stumble and fall climb laboriously back up to nurse our wounds. Only a thankful heart will allow the rhythm that will lead us into a beautiful, soul-satisfying dance. Thank you for that reminder. This past weekend I reminded myself of the other–and frankly, the other is disastrous. Right now my heart is thankful just for the chance to try again.

  7. Amy says:

I am still thinking about the comment you made yesterday in your post that said, “May your perspective be such that it is hard for you to pick just one.”

Thank you for helping me to stop and really appreciate the small gifts that are often right in front of me waiting for me to notice.

  8. Sunny says:

I love those words. My heart is so moved by music and poetry. You are right – a thankful heart prepares the way for us to notice the Savior! Those roses are beautiful; they are my favorite kind.

  9. Dawn says:

it is odd, isn’t it? to travel alone… without the box of crayons, story books and such? but oh how lovely to be able to hear His voice!

  10. Sissy says:

It’s that season, isn’t it? To look around and count our blessings. I have many.

  18. The Scooper says:

I have missed Tuesdays and my meanderings to my favorite bloggy haunts. But I always remember on Tuesday that it is Tuesday and I think about what I would post if I had time to sit down at the computer and scrawl it out. In that way, I guess I’m still unwrapping {albeit anonymously.} Hope you are well and that your wedding weekend was blissful.

  19. Court says:

Yeah Waterdeep! My favorite song is Beyond the Water and the Melody but sadly I’ve never found a recording of it. Runner up is Completely Known, that is a great song!
