Jif and Jam

One of my favorite things about my girls starting kindergarten at our neighborhood school has been the families we are beginning to meet. Take these guys, for example.

jif and jam

This is Jif and his wife, Jam. I’ve gotten to know them so well over the past two months. In fact, we chat it up every morning around 7 am. Or, if I’m really feeling sociable, at 8pm the night before school. Good friends, those two. They have a daughter, Sunmaid.

sunmaid

She’s so cute. And she really wanted a dog for a pet just like my kids. But Jif’s allergic.

goldfish

They got goldfish instead.

  3. Dale says:

I am so grateful to discover that I’m not the only one who imagines the secret lives of inanimate objects! lol

  4. Lisa says:

Jif lives on the premises, as does jam, but they do not co-habitate except on my bread. We are also well acquainted with Ms. Sunmaid, and goldfish happily reside here, as well. You just have to love family togetherness.

  5. Sissy says:

    You’re making me hungry!

  6. Susie says:

Funny how “Mommiehood” changes you…for the better..of course~ Enjoy your day!

  7. Kristen says:

I had a JIF and jam sandwhich last night for dinner. Funny how a simple PB&J can bring back memories. And I love the fun story. So creative.

  8. Rebekah says:

How can you make even a pb&j look cute in pictures?

  9. adornedlife says:

a smile to start my day…thank you, emily. (too bad Jif has allergies. ha! ha!)

  10. Abbie says:

    Lol!

  11. Teri from Indiana says:

Oh my!! You haven’t introduced Jif & Jam to their neighbor Ritz? I’m sure they will be the best of friends! And don’t forget the newest neighbor…….Capri Juice Bag Family. They are THE place to hang out after school.

  12. Yep. Over here it’s Jif and honey. Every day. Without fail. I keep waiting to get a note from the school suggesting that I vary their diets a bit.

  13. Trish D says:

Thanks for the giggle this morning!

  14. shayla says:

  16. Amanda says:

    so cute!

    thanks for the smile :)

  17. Dayle says:

I may have had the only child on the planet who would not eat PB&J sandwiches. Hated peanut butter all her life. What’s wrong with her?

  18. Beth says:

I love it! Although I don’t yet have any children, Jiff, Jam, and Goldfish make a regular appearance at our house too, since my husband (an electrician) takes a very elementary-school-style lunch to work every day- PB&J, Pudding and fruit cups, capri suns, etc. :) Also, I need to play around with my camera more to figure out how you made the things in the background out of focus, but the foreground so clear. Love it! ;)

  19. Shilo says:

    Toooooooooo cute!

  20. Kristi Kitchen says:

    Hi Emily,

Love your post today! My husband and I laugh about all the foods we get to eat again because we have kids…you forget how good PB&J is together…and we rediscovered applesauce. All the food you loved as a child…but forget about as an adult…until you have kids! I’m getting hungry now…gotta go!

  21. Jami says:

Emily you are so cute!! Amazing how you can make ANYTHING look good with your camera. You are good, my friend!

  22. heidi says:

heh, heh – cutie cute. My 4 year old is in LOVE with PB and J – I think he’d seriously eat it for every meal if we let him.

  23. So cute! Love it!

  24. So cute! You made me smile :-)

  25. elk says:

we are OLD OLD friends…I have senior in high school! cute post!

  26. everydayMOM says:

    very cute…

we have the opposite relationship with Jif and jam. By son has a life-threatening peanut allergy, so we’ve traveled a long journey learning to trust God for his protection each day in a school filled with little hands smeared with Jif.

It’s funny how something that even I have always loved so much could be the source of so much dread now that I’m a parent. Oh, how we run from Jif and jam in our family.

Don’t mean to bring you down. Just a little perspective. =]

  27. The Nester says:

I think I shall be Sun-Maid for Halloween, she is so pretty, but her parents are such squares.

  28. Melanie says:

That was a cute post. It made me smile:)

  29. Richella says:

  30. Karol says:

Have you met the cousins, Teddy Grahams??

  31. Jessica says:

I don’t know you but you are so cute:) Thanks for the smile.

  32. Chesh says:

That was the cutest post EVER!!! AWWWW!

  33. Anna says:

Just another dysfunctional family, right? Certainly one I can relate to…

    Smiles.

  34. Hee hee…we love Jif and Jam here as well. :0

  35. Linda says:

I LOVE that peanut butter…and the jam, but I use the Low Sugar. Yum :)

  36. diXymiss says:

Well, I just hope they all stay far away from the black sheep of the family, fun size TwiX. She’s an evil temptress.

  37. Missy says:

I just got my 4 year old daughter to eat PB and Jelly and my 2 year old son is starting to like it. Now they want it every day. The problem…their dentist says they can only have PB and raisins once a week! Can you imagine? Of couse this is the man who believes kids shouldn’t use toothpaste until they’re five! I think we need to find a new dentist…soon!

    Cute post!

  38. Kathy says:

    LOL! Love this!

  39. dawn says:
