So, I have been reading your book and cannot tell you how much it feels like you are inside my brain! It is rather scary, but that being said, it is really speaking to my heart. The Lord is really working on this perfectionism/people-pleasing stronghold in me. I have been telling everyone about your wonderful book (which I "randomly" stumbled upon on Amazon). In telling one of my friends the other day, she recognized you as sister of "The Nester". Well, of course I had to check out her blog (LOVE), which led me to your blog... Wouldn't you know it, we have been contemplating knocking down a wall in our house. We are involved with Young Life and have had many a party of 100+ crammed into our front room. I love having people in our home and want it to be a comfortable place for people to be. People think I am nuts and aren't really getting it. I got so excited when I saw your pictures! I love that you were doing it for the same reasons. I keep asking the Lord if this is Him or me, because I can and don't want to get obsessed about the house and decorating. Anyway, I love how you did it. My biggest question is how you positioned the furniture. I would really like to make it a bigger living space rather than two divided spaces that are open, but having trouble reconciling the "beam" that has to be there to support the wall upstairs! Do you have pics of the room with furniture in it? I am very visual and need pictures! :)
I have so much more to say about your book. Thank you so much for writing. I know so many good girls who are stuck in this place and don't even see it. You are a wise young woman with a great gift, thank you for sharing. Can't wait for the next book!

Wow, wow, WOW! What a beautiful transformation! We also recently renovated & moved into a house built in 1964 and, YES, I do believe that you are correct on the dark brown paneling being the LAW that year...our house was full of it, too! We also opened up the wall between the family room & what was the formal living room & it makes ALL the difference. Hooray for renovations that make spaces beautiful, unique & useful!

Looking back at your lovely redo...and I have a flooring question. How did you handle the gap in the hardwood between the two rooms after you took the wall down?

Ok, so I'm a little late on the other comment from before; you did post pictures and the new room is beautiful and a much better use of the space than before. You can really have large groups now and people can mingle better.

Emily,
This is my first visit to your blog and I've loved every minute of it! Your home remodel pictures are fantastic! What color did you use on your walls in the living room?

Looking forward to reading more :)

WOW! This is so amazing! We have been in discussions about cutting out a wall between our "formal living room" and "den". This gives me a GREAT visual on what my rooms would look like. THANKS A BUNCH!:)
