unwrapping the crazy

thanksgiving

As I stood on a chair at my mom’s house and took in this scene, I knew before I snapped the shot that it would be my favorite of all the photos I took on Thanksgiving. And it is.

Do you have a favorite snapshot from Thanksgiving, in all its chaotic glory? Perhaps your gift is a quiet moment, a gentle touch, a thoughtful word, a man who loves you, a friend who gets it. Though official Thanksgiving has passed, let’s continue a lifestyle of noticing and celebrating the small and the sacred.

If you are new to unwrapping your Tuesday with us, please take a quick minute to read this post, particularly the part that explains how to link up using a permalink. Last week nearly 10 links were deleted because they were linked using the wrong address. If you have no idea what I’m talking about but want to join, feel free to email me: emily(at)chattingatthesky(dot)com.

As always, if you are reading in a reader, you will need to click over to the blog to see the lovely links. I encourage you to do so. Thank you for making Tuesdays my favorite day of the week.

Our camera sat in a drawer all last week. I’m ashamed that I didn’t get a single photo. But I am so glad to get to share a gift from last week. Thank you for faithfully hosting this wonderful time for sharing.

I love your favorite Thanksgiving photo. And I love the photos of you and your girls that Nester posted yesterday. I thought I recognized your mom’s kitchen! What precious times you must have had.

    Blessings to you today.

  2. Emily says:

Thanks, Richella! Sometimes my favorite events are the ones where my camera sits in the drawer. The lens helps me to see things…but sometimes it also keeps me from being present. It’s good to have both, I suppose.

love the “comfortableness” of this shot…socked foot resting on the arm of the sofa, “grandpa” being drawn (and tickled?) quartered by the kids. life is beautiful.

  4. What a great picture. So glad you captured that moment in time!

  5. love, love, love this photo!

  6. Great photo!

I totally forgot to get my camera out at Thanksgiving. I couldn’t believe that I have no pictures to share. I made sure when we got home I got it out for tree trimming at least. This is a great picture. It really captures the fun and joy of spending time with family.

  8. Dayle says:

Those crazy candid moments are some of the best life has to offer. Hope your Thanksgiving was filled with plenty.

I love your picture capturing a “moment in time” that will never occur in quite the same way again.

May you be blessed to enjoy a continuous string of such moments.

  10. Before I even read your post the picture caught my eye, and I immediately saw the joyful chaos you captured. Today I linked to a post about what I’m sure will be a new Christmas memory for my family – one that will make me smile each time we decorate our tree for years to come because it is a cute reminder from when the kids were little.

I LOVE this photo. This is what family togetherness looks like. Not like a hallmark card, but messier and infinitely more real and joyful. Thanks for sharing it.

  12. Beth says:

My favorite part of that photo is the man behind the paper oblivious to the chaos!

  13. Jes says:

I LOVE this shot! Its so. . .perfectly insane!

  14. I cracked up over the man behind the paper, too. Reminded me of my dad. Thanks for capturing the realness of everyday life. I think sometimes when I browse blogs I come away thinking, wow, everyone else’s life looks prettier than mine, or neater, or more fun. I love that this photo is fun AND real. Thanks, Emily!

  15. that is a fabulous photo! loving the fun it captured.

  16. Corinne says:

    I love that photo – I can’t stop smiling :)

  17. katie says:

My goodness. You are a kindred spirit! :)

  18. Kimberly says:

The man in the chair is the funniest! Blissfully unaware, or an unnatural ability to ignore chaos? Love it!

  19. My fave pic from thanksgiving is also of my kids on the floor wrestling with grandpa. Beautiful post, lovely reminder that the next gorgeous moment is right around the corner.

  20. Sandy Toes says:

I can see why this is one of your favorites!

Okay, I just laughed out loud at that picture! So cute! I love remembering holidays from years past, and even though the memories we’re creating today are very different from the ones back then, I hope my son looks back on his childhood and savors his memories the way I do mine.

  23. imoomie says:

Memories to last a life time…what a great photo!
