Our family won’t be spending much money on gifts for each other this year. Instead, we are trying to be purposeful about spending time together. So this weekend, my parents and my sister’s family came to spend the weekend with us. One thing we wanted to do while we were together was to eat four sticks of butter.

I kid. Kind of. Actually, we wanted to make Pioneer Woman’s cinnamon rolls because they are the most wonderful, festive, fantastically delicious tin full of fat you will ever eat. So my kitchen was filled up with flour, sugar, tag-playing-kids and Bing Crosby’s White Christmas.

There was a lot of butter and a little dancing. The recipe makes seven tins of rolls. Pioneer Woman talks about making these and delivering them to friends at the holidays. What a great idea, we thought, as we finished off the third tin. Granted, there were twelve of us. But still. That’s a lot of rolls.

I did deliver one tin to my sister-in-law and it was extremely satisfying to show up on her cold doorstep with warm, maple, coffee smelling rolls. I assume everyone has heard of these, but if you are one of the three who haven’t, here is the recipe. And we only ended up using three sticks of butter, so they’re that much closer to healthy.

Nobody knows.
love you sister.
What a fun way to spend a weekend– loving and eating! And the butter only makes things better.
You have me drooling …. warm, hot cinnamononon rolls. My family doesn’t want to spend much on gifts this year either, what a great idea!
Mmmm…off to meet PW Thursday night. Can’t wait! If I don’t get out of renovation pergatory I’m going to need a whole pan of those rolls for myself. Pray I don’t shoot the drywall people tomorrow.
mmmm, these look fantastic! I must be one of the 3!
thanks for the recipe.
what a great weekend!!
Have a wonderful week.

Looks like lots of fun! I really enjoy cooking with my Mother and Sister too.
Love this!
Aren’t they sinful? When I found PW over two years ago the cinnamon rolls was the first recipe I tried. I had to make two batches in order to have any to give away! A few went into the freezer where they resided for, oh, probably a few days anyway…
Yum! I need to go get that cookbook.
I am from the south and everything I make has butter in it. 4 sticks doesn’t sound like a lot to me:) I almost put a stick in everything we eat. I don’t know how I stay thin! Looks like you had fun with your family. Merry Christmas.
Haha–nobody knows what, Nester? That you and Emily split one pan?
I have been meaning to/wanting to make these for a long time, and everyone keeps blogging about them…perhaps this year will be the year!
Oh Emily, that sounds like fun. I wish we didn’t over 1200 miles away from all our family. I love PW and rushed out to buy her book. I’ve had fun trying out the recipes I haven’t already gotten from her blog. I’m glad you and Nester “bonded” over butter! I gotta make those rolls.
Love Pioneer Woman’s cookbook! I’ll try the rolls. LOVE the apron!
How ironic! My neighbor just brought a tin over to me! They were great, but I have to say that even the pioneer woman can’t beat my mom’s cinnamon rolls
Love your idea to spend less money, give more time. We should all be so thoughtful!
i really want to try these but i do not want to make them. i hate to cook. but it might be fun in your kitchen.it sure is pretty. and the company would be good.
I have been reading about that recipe…. so want to try it
Lookslike a wonderful day!
I absolutely love that shot of you… What fun!
Emily , are those your dance moves , or are you making a feeble attempt at roping in the tag players? Love it! I wish I had a sister. You are so blessed. This will be my girls someday. I am so blessed.
I am one of the three…
So were you LISTENING to “White Christmas” or WATCHING “White Christmas”? I like to do both. I do so love Bing’s Christmas album, but I also love to watch the wonderful, schmaltzy Christmas movie starring Bing and Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen. I can just see you and Nester doing the “Sisters” number. Will you do it for me if I make you some rolls?
Sounds like you guys had a great time…i can’t wait to make these!
HOw fun! I’ve been dying to make these cinnamon rolls for forever! Got to do it soon. I know they are delish, everything she makes is heavenly. Glad ya’ll had a fun time with family. I’m buying much, much less this year, practically nothing in fact. Just being together & being thankful is enough for me.
LOVE the middle picture of you! You are too funny
-H
paula deen would be very proud of you! although i am sure she could have squeezed some more butter into the recipe
Umm, where’s my tin? No, I’m not kidding.
I love it.. Like you we will not be spending a lot on Christmas this year but we are spending quality time together. I love your blog and I am now a follower.
Those look soooo yummy! I wish more people thought of “spend less money, spend more time,” alas I live amongst spenders…
Love that you and Nestergirl had such good food & fun… makes me miss my sister!
I really want to make these and I love that you made them healthy!
i made these yesterday too! I had to cut down on the butter too!! It was a fun way to spend the day and delivering them to our unsuspecting neighbors.
I have drooled over those rolls since I first read her post about them however long ago that was. I haven’t been brave enough to try making them, though. One recipe of hers that uses proportionately more butter is her Apple Dumpling recipe. Oh. My. Word. Those are so ding dang good. My stomach is growling at the thought.
And I love that picture of y’all. You look like you’ve got a ‘tude going! : )
Absolutely beautiful!!!!!! I will be making those Buns with my family.
Thanks for the recipe! I can’t wait to try it out!!
i almost threw up a little when i saw the four sticks of butter. but i bet they are good. obviously.
love the idea of being purposeful of spending time together instead of showering each other with stuff we dont really need.
Oh, I love sisterly fun.
And cinnamon rolls.
And you and Nester.
)
Love this! My sister and I are planning to get together to make these too. I was planning to give some to neighbors, but now you’re making me think that might happen, if they’re as good as everyone says they are!
Oh, those rolls are AMAZING.
So….what I got out of this post was the awesome gray chunky neck sweater/blouse…..where can I find that? =)
I second the last comment- WHERE can I find that grey, cozy, cute, awesome and funky sweater because I am in LOOOOVE with it.
What? Nobody wants my sloppy grey t-shirt? Geez. She got it at Charlotte Russe.
Ahhh we did these rolls too this week!!! We made them on St Nicholas Day, a new tradition! They were SO YUMMY!!!
Oh, my goodness, how fun! I love the idea of the whole family staying with you. That’s awesome.
I made the cinnamon rolls for the first time the night before Thanksgiving. I gave away one tin to a friend and sent one home with our oldest, who’s in college. The rest disappeared!
What a fun family time! I decided to make these for the first time for Christmas morning! SO delicious. We just kept ooohing and aaaahing as we enjoyed them. I’m not big of maple flavored icing, so we used cream cheese icing instead. I got the cookbook for Christmas, so I am excited to try out some of the other recipes!
Aw, so fun to revisit, and to spend time with sisters! Thanks for linking up Em!
