We just got back from Disney World. I didn’t tell you how soon we were going because of all the robbers and arsonists out there who read my blog and may have targeted my house while we were gone. So thanks, faithful-reader-thief, for not stealing my laptop while my house was empty.
We had a great time with only two or three minor pull-out-my-hair moments. Ariel was just as fabulous as you all said she would be, with her tail and her rock and her long red hair. It took a day or so to get accustomed to feeling as though we had stepped into a parallel universe of happiness and cheer.
For me, there was always a vague sense that we were oblivious partakers in a sparkly dream-show orchestrated by an earily up-beat director who was watching our every move from the top of Cinderella’s castle saying “Here they come! Cue the Fairy Godmother!” And out she walks in front of us, greeting my kids with a sappy Hello, Princess! and welcoming outstretched arms. It was a little Truman Show-ish weird, not gonna lie. But seeing it through my kids eyes, it was pretty fantastic.

Love the pic. Glad the kids enjoyed it. Bummer it was so cold for you while you were here!!
We were just there last Monday, in our winter coats. But it was so much fun! My boys are not that expressive, but my daughter ate it up!
I cannot wait to do Disney…. I can only begin to imagine how totally magical it must be for kids.
)
I know what you mean about the parallel universe. Creepy.
You’re welcome about Ariel.
Did you do the Belle show in her adorable little garden? My husband was chosen to play the Beast. He was so alluring that Belle couldn’t keep her eyes/hands off of him.
Oh, Emily, we just got home, too!!! We were there from the 4th to the 11th. Sad I missed you! It was my first time and my son Andrew’s first time. He liked the princesses, but obviously preferred the characters from Cars and Toy Story. What a magical (albeit freeeeezing) vacation!
Glad you had a good time! I can’t wait to hear more about it… and see more pics. Love you!
“Pull-out-my-hair” moments seem inclusive of vacations, at least in mine. Like mine, I’m sure yours were worth every bald spot!
I worked at Disneyland (not world) for a couple of years and saw all kinds of stuff, but I still think it’s a pretty magical place. There are definitely people thinking of every single detail to make your visit perfect, but I hope it wasn’t too creepy! It’s all about perspective, isn’t it? Not taking Disney too seriously, but taking it seriously enough to have fun.
I’m glad your family did!
there is nothing like seeing your children in a state of amazement! sounds like a lovely family vaca. i have enjoyed reading your blog. thanks for sharing. xo rae
Oh I just loved taking our kids there…..and I have to admit I love the place too. Epcot being my fave….. So nice to hear you had a good time…. where did you stay ???
All the best,
Kathy
welcome home! did you freeze? it has been so chilly here! but i did hear that the parks were pretty empty! i love disney… just letting myself fall into the land of make believe for a while.
yes. through their eyes, the world is wonderful again, isn’t it? give a new thought to faith “as one of these.”
HA! Yes, it is rather Truman Show-esque — especially when you go with just adults. But when you see it through the eyes of a child? It’s magical.
I look forward to more of your report.
Oh, we love Disney. Dh and I went there for our honeymoon! Indy has been to WDW 3 times and Disneyland Paris twice (in his 7 years of life!) and is already trying to talk us into going back. He absolutely loves it. I love seeing it through his eyes because for him the magic is real and I’m going to enjoy every moment of it (which is why we go so often-at least that’s what I tell myself to justify the trips). I’m glad you guys had fun. It was miserably hot the last time we were in WDW and unbearably cold the last time we were in DLP. We can’t catch a break.
There is not a more magical place than Disney and especially to see it through the eyes of our babies. I remember crying at the innocent joy my three year old daughter (at the time) expressed during the light parade at the end of the day. Even though it was chilly, I’m sure your children were mesmerized.
