That black chair right there is where I write. It is my seat at our kitchen table. I have a built-in desk in our laundry room that I thought, when we moved into this house, would be where I would write. But I always end up here, at the kitchen table. It has gotten to the point now that my mind and body know what to do when they sit in that seat. I have trained myself to work in that chair.
Do you have a writing chair? Tell us. And then come back tomorrow and unwrap your Tuesday.

A chair? No. But I do have one cushion on the couch that I gravitate towards. There is something about that one spot that inspires me to write. I may brainstorm in the car or jot down notes at the kitchen table, but when it is time for serious writing, the cushion is where you’ll find me.
Yes, I do! Two, really. One is our computer desk chair. I still don’t have my own laptop (although that’s about to change since my sweet man ordered me one recently!) so I sit at the PC.
I also like to just use the old fashioned pen and paper duo and sit on my lanai (porch) and scrawl away. It is so peaceful and inspirational there!
Have a beautiful week, Emily!
Oh yes I do…the head of my table too…Though I keep my computer safely tucked away in an office the majority of the time…attached to the external harddrive because I take too many photos…and because I am too distracted by sweet bloggers if I don’t work offline…and because I don’t think my wee mac would stand an hour of what my naughty toddlers would throw at it!
Hope that chair, and that view, and the God you serve will equip and spur you towards the completion of your book!
Melissa
My computer desk chair since I don’t own a laptop.
I do like to use pen and paper occasionally. When I do that I have a chair in the den that is big and cushy and all mine! It reclines, too. I think that’s why I love it so much.
so great to see it here…i love the kitchen table as well…or curled up on the couch!
My new favorite writing spot is in my cheery and bright multipurpose school/craft/play room. Come take a peek. BTW, I LOVE that kitchen area. I want to switch out my valance window treatments for some fabulous mistreatments like yours. Have a great week Emily.

I wish I had a good writing spot. It’s a little difficult for me to find the right spot because I love bright morning sun and being able to see out a window. But most days I’m at work when the sun is at its best – shining on the overstuffed chair that’s next to a tall window in our living room. So I suppose I ought to figure out something else…
Yes, I do. Sometimes I work at my kitchen table (where I am right now), but my favorite place is in the corner of my bedroom in my absolutely perfect Stickley chair with low arm rests and a curved back. It is so soft and comfortable with the perfect dimensions. I love it so much.
I can’t sit at a table. I have three spots. One is on the couch. The second is on the bed (this worked especially well when the bed was on the floor the past few months). And we have that bench in our sunroom that I use a lot in the summer. Mostly the couch, though.
(The thing about it for me is that I have to be able to put my feet up.)
Kitchen chair.
My bed (propped up against 4 pillows).
My computer chair.
Usually the kitchen table as well, for me. There are those rare moments when everyone is asleep, and I am draw to my laundry room “office” to write uninterrupted. Love that!
My couch with my feet up.
My chair and a half.
and sometimes, a booth at Panera.
I still don’t think of myself as a writer, just a blogger. Maybe one day a writer. ;0)
Happy Monday, Emily.
I like to write sitting on the couch. And I like to have the TV on, which I know is kinda crazy. Most people like quiet, but I think I write people better with talking in the background. Who knows?
I write at an old enamel top table that I’ve had since I was in high school which now resides in my living room. This is the only desk that I’ve even had. I keep thinking that a proper desk might be better, with drawers and the like, but I always return to my table.
I don’t think I’ve ever considered it but I guess I do have a writing chair. While I can write sitting on the sofa or most anywhere, 90% of my writing probably takes place at the kitchen table. My 2 year old can also write anywhere but he prefers walls and furniture.
A red, wooden chair from IKEA. I sit there and my fingers go crazy!
Oh yes — a white ladder-back chair with a woven seat, rather like your black one actually. It sits at my desk in the sun room, where I look out over cardinals and blue jays at the feeder. Wish I had a laptop, though, so I could write in a coffee shop — then I’d feel like a “real” writer!
We just moved. Today I walked into our office/den/guest room
the place where I’ve found myself writing. It already feels really good. Except for that I have this funky 70′s style table that I love, and then a big over-done office chair that takes over the room. From my husband’s old office/office. I was JUST thinking this morning that I need to find a chair that’s me and switch it out.
I ususally write in a comfy wingback chair in the living room after the kiddos are in bed and a hush quiet falls upon my house (for about 30 min. until one of them wakes up for some reason). I love the mirror in your dining room! Do you remember where you go it?
I sometimes sit in a chair at the kitchen table, but since I got my laptop my favorite spot is the middle cushion on the sofa in the livingroom. That way, my husband doesn’t feel deserted if I decide to spend lots of time reading and writing
Funny that I’ve never thought about it before, but I do have a spot. Right at the kitchen counter.
Several years ago my husband persuaded me to get big, upholstered barstools. I had cool little metal and leather ones, but he pointed out that they were too small for him. Now he’s not even the biggest person in the house, so I guess he was right to point us toward larger stools.
In any event, it’s my rather smallish self that’s propped there more than anyone else’s. And it’s become one of my favorite places, because it’s where I read things like your beautiful words. I think I’m still more of a reader than a writer. But maybe that’s the first thing a writer is. What do you think?
I do. It’s at the kitchen table. I’m house sitting (for the next four months) and the chair is super comfy and looks out over the river. It’s the perfect view for writing!
As I am reading your post and your comments it comes to mind that it is like we have our own self imposed “time out” spots. We have found a place to land that promotes a discipline, but brings security and a comfort because we have a port we can’t help but be drawn to, for when we are settled there our words, thoughts, inspirations and dreams that we as writers have to pen in order to find order, flow freely.
Great chair…beautiful kitchen table
Yes I do, but it’s a little broken right now. I’m sitting in at as I type and it’s located in my den at my desk. It is my designated work area, but I do feel very comfortable writing here. If I need a change of scenery, I’ll take my laptop to my bedroom and write there too. But that’s usually reserved for journal writing.
In my next life/house, I think I’ll create a banquette in my kitchen. I feel inspired by your light-filled space.
I saw your post from the Inspired Room. Did you buy your white table or did you paint a table? If you painted your table, did you put a “finish” on it? I recently had my table painted and it is getting scratches, blue jean fadings, etc. so I am looking for ideas to protect it’s newly painted beauty. Thank you!
I have a desk, and at night I love to write in bed…
I don’t suppose you’d share where you got your curtains?
I haven’t found my favorite chair yet. My desk chair is a cheap, uncomfortable plastic one; but my dining room is too dark! The one thing I have found that is essential to my writing process is natural light! Which I see you have plenty of
I LOVE those curtains. Can you tell me where they are from??
Cute blog and cute tiered fruit bowl! Where did you get it???
