love on a tuesday

I didn’t use to believe him when he said he loved me. Not because his love wasn’t real, more because I heard the words through my own messed up filter. Somehow during the last ten years of knowing him and being known by him, of failing and receiving grace, of risking rejection and being accepted after all, the filter faded away and truth took over. We choose messy, fantastic love everyday. It’s a gift I sometimes forget to remember, but it’s the best one I’ve got.

  1. Knowing you are truly loved despite your imperfections or mistakes is one of the most amazing gifts!

  2. dawn says:

Aah yes…to be loved when your true self is know. Beautiful.

    I posted similarly on Friday…http://dawnsgoodlife.blogspot.com/2010/02/loving-anyway.html

  3. Dawn says:

messy fantastic love… i don’t think it gets better than that here on earth :) i really love your photo!

  4. Melissa says:

hey friend, so glad to know you all, and to see your love growing everyday.

  5. that’s what it’s all about. love this.

  6. It is *so* easy to take them for granted, and to focus on the little things that annoy, instead of the gift that they are. Thanks for the reminder.

  7. A good husband is a gift. I wrote about the same thing today.

  8. I love love. :)

  9. So beautiful…I love the journey God takes us on as married couples.

  10. Corinne says:

You are right – that’s the best gift :)
    Lovely!

  11. Amy says:

    messy, fantastic love. . .

I love this post. If only couples would realize that messy love is real love and not give up so easily. Thanks for the wonderful words today.

  12. Brianna says:

I often “forget to remember” the gift that is my husband’s love. I think God’s reminding me of my forgetfulness today. Thank you.

  13. Bonita says:

I’m being totally carnal and ignoring the point, which is a great one, to ask, “Is that your ring?????”

Wow! It’s beautiful, all of them! Next time I see you I want to see it up close.

  14. emily says:

yes, those are our hands. And our rings. Diamonds are my own personal weakness. I. Love. Them.

  15. I struggled for the first few years of my marriage to believe my husband when he said he loved me. I worried he would someday wake up and realize I wasn’t necessary to him. We celebrated our 9 year anniversary last week and that struggle to trust him and his words has definitely eased from what it was. Thank you for the beautiful reminder today, and every week, to be grateful and not take for granted these things in our lives.

  16. kelly says:

Love this idea, and your post this week!

  17. Sissy says:

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, isn’t it the truth? I love mine, too.

I linked up a post that I wrote the other day about a gift that God has been giving me over the past months. It’s been special.

  18. I find it SO hard to be loved by my husband. It’s silly really. It’s a gift he wants me to have, but some days I have to force myself to take it. Stupid girl… ;-)

  19. love this! i chose a messy, romantic, roller coaster ride of love but despite everything we’ve been through the last 9 years, we’re still solid and in love. doesn’t get better than that, does it?

  20. imoomie says:

    What a spectacular picture!

I have trouble hearing “I love you”, probably for the reasons you mentioned. I am an actions speak louder that words kind of gal. Nothing makes me feel more loved then walking in the house and being greeted by the smell of bleach and the laundry going…or the dishwasher being loaded, coffee in bed.

    A hopeless romantic, I guess…ha-ha.

  21. Melodie says:

I guess gifts can come on tv when they give a gift to millions of viewers, but for myself, some surprisedly early mail had me feeling very thankful today.
