An on-the-inside rest has found its way to me. Perhaps it was putting into words the chaos of these writing days. Perhaps it was reading your kind and encouraging comments on yesterdays post. Or the beauty you all found in the midst of all that ordinary.
There was also that reminder I read about doing all things through His strength. In so many ways, we have a God who stands on his head, doing things so backwards from normal. Weak people are strong, poor people are rich and ashes turn to beauty in His presence.

I am glad you have found that. It is vital to our well-being! Ain’t God good???
so glad that you have found your rest… or that it has found you after seeking relentlessly! and oh this book… has been the lifeline that my soul has need to reconnect. i received it as a gift… and now it is my gift of choice to give
happy wednesday!
I’m also going through Sarah Young’s book, Jesus Calling.
so much in common.
I said “going through” that book….let’s just say…it’s “going through” me. LOVE IT.
On-the-inside rest is so, so good. And I am forever thankful for His backward ways. Where would I be without them?
Rest found me yesterday too. I am up to my ears in planning an Easter outreach event for families at my church–and it’s just over a week away and lots of details to settle, lots of volunteers to recruit, and an interactive experience to staff and make sets for. Yet, God told me to Be Still in my time with Him yesterday. This is His deal. I just need to be faithful and keep doing what I need to do. Leave overwhelmed behind.
And I really want that book. :0)
It makes me happy to think of your heart at rest.
Aren’t God’s ways amazing? Isn’t it good of him to include us in His work? How kind of him to let us be a part of it.
Oh yay!!! I am so glad that you found your spirit’s rest in Him!!! Sometimes it is so hard to do in the middle of life’s chaos. I had the same problem with yesterday and then around 1:00pm in the afternoon suddenly I remembered that in my weakness He is at His strongest and suddenly I was filled with His overwhelming peace. He is SO awesome, isn’t HE!!!! Still praying for you, Emily!!!
I so heart that devotional – I recently passed it on to a friend in need, I think I may need my own copy again someday.
He always meets us right where we are. I so enjoy your beautiful words and sweet spirit Emily.
Life has, in it’s ways, really been showing me how unfathomably big God’s job is… it’s humbling really, when He takes the time for us…
In my devotional today…I just had to share.
“The burden borne by mankind is a heavy and crushing thing…REST is simply release from that burden. It is not something we do; it is what comes to us when we cease to do.” A.W. Tozer
I’m learning to rest more in Him. He’s provided those moments and I’m learning to take them.
Praying that God will help you maintain that inner rest. It’s sacred work that you do, Emily…that of mothering, writing your story, writing for us, and giving us a place {here} to also find rest through our own words and through others’. Keep on…
Hi! Found you through a friend…so cool…I am also listening to Jesus through Sarah Young! It is one of my favorite devotional books! It amazes me how God works…so gentle and kind, loving and persistant! Great to find you!
Very encouraging. It’s a great thing to wake up in the morning and know that we’ll never get through the day without His strength (that’s how I feel every single day of my pregnancies) – so good to be aware of our need for Him!
Yipeeeee!
I saw HE is subterranean…Popping up to delight us and show us his grace and mercy when and where we least expect it! blessings to you in your restful place!
The paradoxical lovely of the “backwards” ways of God are really something I enjoy unwrapping! Thank you for reminding me! I am enjoying the ins and outs of your adventures in book-writing too! Thanks for sharing. I think it is something in my half-a-PhD, half-way-round-the-world much more than half-full future.
I really liked the phrase about how God does things backwards, because my life has felt so backwards lately, but seeing it like that reminds me that God’s hand is in every part of my life. Thank you!
