76

No, he doesn’t have 76 toes. That’s the number of pushes I gave him on the swing before the others called me to push them on the tire swing. It’s really not that many, 76. You get into kind of a rhythm: push, lean, pause. Push, lean, pause. Push, lean,  pause. It can be relaxing if you want it to be. On regular days, I’d rather be sitting on the park bench watching than pushing them on the swings. But on the days when I choose to live in the moment, pushing feels like a gift.

It really IS a gift…especially when those days are gone (mine will be 18 this year)! Great pic :)

I know what you mean. The pushing can be just what you said, a gift, such joy. BUT, for some days it seems like incredible work and you’d just rather sit. And watch.

  3. Abbie says:

Yay for 76 pushes. Sometimes, I do squats or lunges while pushing the swings!

    Precious little bitty boy toes!

It is almost like a workout, the pushing, yet within the rhythm the perfect balance of life can be found…

How timely. For the past few weeks I’ve been swinging the boys from the time they get up from their naps until my husband gets home…yes, almost two hours. I’m beginning to get weary but it’s the ONLY thing I can do with all three of them that keeps everyone smiling. Thanks for the reminder to cherish these moments (even if they are hours).

I love this! And I am sad to say there have been too many times that I didn’t see pushing my chick-lins on the swing as a gift. Now that I am working outside of the home, I cherish those sweet moments.
Thanks for the memory. So excited for you that you are making some precious ones this week. Praisin God for this weather!

  7. This post made me happy!

  8. The simplest things bring the best giggles and shreaks of joy from our children! I need to remember to always take the time to give them that gift…their giggles are pure joy to me!

so very true. my best days are the ones that I choose to “push instead of sit on the bench and watch.”

  10. Richella says:

I love that it was 76 pushes. Like “76 Trombones.” A day of getting off the park bench sounds like a reason for a parade to me!

  11. I. love. this. post.

(And I am so praying for you and words, Emily… you write alone, but oh, you are so not alone. Never alone.)

    Humbly… and with gratitude…

I so agree with you about pushing a swing being a gift! Last week I traveled 7 hours away to visit with my daughter and family which includes my 2 sweet grandchildren. I spent much time outside pushing my oh so adorable, 3 1/2 yr old granddaughter in her swing. We sang together, made up words together and made faces at each other and laughed through all the time of pushing the swing and watching her love the moments. I wouldn’t trade that time with her for anything.

You have such a wonderful blog.

  13. Such a beautiful post — makes me want more of it in my regular days… but, it always lets me know, the regular days are mixed in with the days with gifts. :) Happy Easter, Emily!

  14. LOVE this one, Emily. Love it.
