As you may have noticed, I took a week off. I went to Hilton Head with my kids and my mom-and-sister-in-law. It was an all-girls-plus-my-son week as The Man was away on a youth trip.
I didn’t work all week. I didn’t make one list. I didn’t write even one sentence on my manuscript. I barely did laundry. I happily ate way too much here. I read this book. We watched this movie. And this one. And this one, too.
The ocean water was freezing, but it didn’t keep them out. The pool water was colder, and even I got in. I didn’t see the ocean until I was 12. I’m so glad they are growing up with it.
It is rare to get even a Saturday with nothing planned to do, let alone an entire week. Still, it is good to be home. And now on this anti-Saturday, the challenge will be to find the bliss in the midst of the ordinary chaos. When you find yours, write about it and come back to unwrap it with us tomorrow.

I guess it’s not that common that I am sitting here at my laptop at midnight to see your post go live so quickly in my reader.
I am glad you had a great time. I have a post in my brain about living by the beach and taking my kids there on a Tuesday afternoon when I never EVER went to the beach until I was an adult. I hope you don’t mind since it will now seem like stealing
SO GLAD you took a week off of it all and barely did laundry and rarely wrote.
Did you like the book and the movies? I’m always looking for new ones.
The Other Emily
oh i want to go there someday. what a great week!
I’m glad you got some time off. You deserve it! I love that movie “The Magic of Ordinary Days”.
Don’t you just love SC beaches? I grew up vacationing there every single summer. I was 18 before I saw the mountains!! I didn’t care. When my husband and I take our kids to the beach it’s like a homecoming for me every single time. Give me a good book, a beach chair with my toes in the water and sand, and a child nearby playing in the ocean or making castles in the sand and you’ve given me priceless moments.
So glad you have time to refresh. Now I’ve got to see about reading the Francine Rivers book you mention. Love her.
Taking a little time off can be the breath of fresh air one needs to bring life back into our souls! I was very close to you- I too took that week for a girls getaway to Savannah! Savannah for me is like finding the Mothership! I have come back not too rested physically, but in every other way I am so rejuvenated. Hope you are too!
Have a wonderful day!
Yvonne
it sounds like it was a needed break. already you sound more rested. yay!
I’m glad you got some time off! It is always a rejuvenating thing!
I’ll have to check out that Francine Rivers book, if you liked it. I started to watch “the magic of an ordinary day” movie on Hallmark channel, but I forget what happened to interrupt me. It sounds as if your week was wonderful, and I’m glad you had a break from lists and other aspects of real life! How fun!
It all sounds perfect to me Emily. I love the ocean – love it!!
I just bought Francine Rivers new book the other day. Did you love it? I did a little happy dance when I found out she had written another book.
Have a blessed week.
is that a new Francine Rivers book?? I have loved everything I’ve read by her! I was just wondering if she had anything new coming out…
Sounds like a wonderful week.
glad you’re home, friend. sounds like so much fun, and definitely needed r and r. whenever you come back, i miss hilton head more, and wish i could have been in that kitchen making fool frios, or frutopias, or frio fools, or whatever they’re called. and watching all those fun girlie movies, and even the little princess, too.
