for the love of the mantel

I haven’t posted much in the house-lover category lately. In a way I feel like there isn’t an inch of this house you haven’t already seen. Still, when I heard my sister was doing a mantel linky at her place today, it felt like a great springy thing to do. So even though most of you have seen this mantel countless times, here it is again.

LOVE the new look…actually seems more user friendly…LOVE it!

love your mantel…heading over to your sister’s place.

  2. Katie says:

My mantle is, like, a quarter of the size of your’s. And I can’t get it to *ever* hardly look right. Your’s looks perfect!

Question: Do y’all ever burn real fires in there? I have a gas fireplace, but I don’t like the way it looks and we never use it…I have considered removing the box….and having a professional, of course, take care of any “gas” parts…..and doing the candle thing like you’ve done. Just curious if you ever use it for fires or if you do candles all the time, year round.

  3. Emily says:

We absolutely use that fireplace for real fires! But in the spring, I usually stick candles in there. I’ve been meaning to re-paint the back of the fireplace where it got all black and smokey for the spring, too…just to brighten it up. But that task sits at the way bottom of the to-do list these days.

  4. I’m loving that little clock on your mantel. I don’t remember that. Must be fun to have that much mantel to play around with–and a challenge to get it looking right. Also like your shelves on either side and the candles in your fireplace. Makes the room look so cozy! :-)

    Hi Emily!

Okay, I must be new, as I had no idea that The Nester was your sister. Actually I read her blog from time to time when I am looking for decorating ideas… but I found your blog and put it in my google reader. I had no idea of the correlation. I just love your refreshing posts. :-) Just had to share that, today….

Love the mantel and the photos on your wall!

  7. Linda says:

Emily, I’ve noticed before, but thought I would comment to say how much I love the little children’s chairs tucked up under your coffee table. It’s precious!

Love you mantel and your new blog design, but my favorite is the table and chairs in the middle of the room, I love the sweetness it adds to an otherwise adult space. I miss my girls being small enough to sit around those little tables, thanks for the memory this morning.

I just love the hurricane. What is in it? I am always on the lookout for “filler” for my jars. The candles in the fireplace look amazing as well.

Okay so your house is simply wonderful. I love it and the simplicity of it. I totally lack the simplicity. I would thank you for the inspiration, but I am afraid you have contributed to my need to redo things that I just did 5 months ago!

  18. Tee says:

Beautiful, as usual. Love the candles IN the fireplace. Think I may try that this season. My FP is 2-sided and that just means a big old gaping hole all summer if I don’t put something in there.

  19. Pat Allen says:

    Emily,

Since I discovered your blog, after lurking in your sister’s blog, I’ve loved your mantel. I occasionally come back and look for the mantel pictures, esp the holiday ones and study them. Everything just fits together. I love your home, it is soothing, comfortable looking yet stylish.

  22. Your mantel is gorgeous! My family’s mantel is looking a bit sad right now… I think I need some sort of really big picture on gallery wrapped canvas to put above it. Hmmm. Thanks for the inspiration!

I like how long your mantel is! Mine is only a little longer than three feet, so it barely fits our Christmas stockings much less all that cool stuff!

Your mantel is delightful. The length is just amazing. I’ve never seen it before. I’m new here. All the way around…to blogging and navigating and such!

I linked up too. ‘Cept I don’t have a mantel yet. Just a ledge. But I figured if I linked that might move me to get a mantel. The other gals have gorgeous ones too!!!

Can’t wait to read more of your blog! Have a lovely night!

    ~Kolein

  34. Your house always looks so warm and inviting. You do a really nice job in your decorating.

  35. Stacey says:

I love the little chairs pulled up to the coffee table.. Sweet! Ok, I know that has nothing to do with your mantel but I love it! Plus, I live in Florida and well, mantels are not a big deal here!

    Have a great weekend,
    Stacey

I can’t possibly see your house enough. It looks like the most welcoming place. If I wasn’t holding a wiggly baby in my lap I would totally go on about it! You’ve inspired me to get some projects done around our house this weekend.

  37. I have a severe case of mantel envy. Our new house doesn’t have a fireplace, and I’m sad.

I’m kinda thinking your house is a place for the soul to breathe. Like I could sit on your couch and drink coffee and… just rest.
