the month that came to visit

Well. Is it just me, or did April breeze through like an out-of-town friend only here to visit for the weekend? It’s as if she couldn’t stay as long this time, what with all her busy things to do and important places to be. I can’t believe she’s gone already.

I’m trying to work through the hot mess that is my manuscript. I sat in Panera for a few hours yesterday staring at my computer screen. I think it took two hours to write one really bad paragraph. I’m taking the weekend off from the writing. I’m going to soak in the first few days of May and see if I can squeeze out lots of spring living from them. But first, in an attempt to let April linger a little longer, here are some slow down posts that I keep going back to.

  1. Looks I’m in good company with my hot mess-ness. Thanks for the link. Taking time off from writing is probably a good idea. All I feel like doing is taking pictures and keeping my mouth shut lately.

    xoxo.

I could spend endless hours at Panera. I also agree that April sort of did a hit-and-run deal on us, and it was even my birthday month. Ah, well. Onto summer, and that is just fine by me! :)

I hope your soul feels restored soon, Emily. And May the month of May be a month of satisfaction and contentment for you.

  3. Panera! How you torture me. Okay, yes, I live in Europe where the pastries are fabulous, but you know what they do not have? Four cheese or spinach artichoke souffles. How I love those. I could sit in Panera for hours on end and be happy as a clam (why do we assume clams are happy?).
Yes, April did fly by. What’s up with that? Wasn’t it just April Fool’s Day? May Day (May 1) is a holiday in Germany (most of Europe I think), so after Indy’s first violin recital, I think we’re going to go picnic at one of the local palaces (if the weather holds). Enjoy your weekend off.

I hope you ENJOY the weekend without working on your book!! Spring living…can’t wait to see pictures.

Thanks for the shout out…..what a nice surprise on this Friday night!!!

  5. Cari says:

I agree, this month has flown by! I really enjoy your blog :) Have a wonderful weekend!

  6. Amber says:

YES! It did fly by. I can’t get over the fact that tomorrow is MAY. Yikes. We leave to go overseas for 8 weeks in 6 weeks. And I have so much to do before we leave. I only hope May doesn’t fly by as quickly! I hate when time goes by so fast, so it makes me cringe when months like this one fly by! Especially because I adore spring!

  7. Wow…thanks for sharing my Yearly Retreat post with your readers.

I must concur with the other commenters that Panera is on of my favorite places. My 5 year old cannot get enough of their broccoli cheese soup, and – really – what kind of magic is in that recipe? I mean, to make a 5 year old say that her very most favoritest thing to eat in the whole wide world ever is broccoli-something. That’s magic.

I hope you have a refreshing weekend off and find yourself full of words on Monday.

I was wondering where April went just yesterday. Hard to believe we’re pushing against the summer months already.

Glad to know I’m not the only one who has spent two-plus hours writing and re-writing and bad paragraph. So frustrating. Why is it so hard to get the message that writing that paragraph or blog post or book chapter or article just isn’t want God has for us at the moment? Someday He shall free us entirely from our desires to be in control and get things done. Alleluia!

    Blessings to you!

  10. Emily, I sure hope you enjoy your weekend off!!! Sometimes it is just what you need to refresh and restore your mind to working order. I was just sharing about that with my readers…I call them “fun breaks” which I stole from PBSKids, DragonTales show. What can I say it really works for me. I hate writer’s block too and fun breaks seem to help me a bunch and lots of prayer…so have a great weekend and you can be sure I will be praying for your creative flow to return stronger than ever!!!

Hi Emily, I bet a few days off to clear your mind will be great for you. I love your blog, thank you!

  13. I have wondered the same thing, WHERE DID APRIL GO? Time is passing especially fast these days, a little too fast if you ask me.

I love Panera Bread! I go there sometimes to read and write or get some alone time.

  14. Well, I hope you at least had an iced green tea while you suffered through your writer’s block. I tell my husband every week or so that I think my brain is officially done writing. And he laughs. Then I ask him to mute the tv and I close my eyes and find new words up on the highest branches, ready to be plucked.

Roughly six days later, I’m right back where I started.

I’m thinking next time, a Panera iced green tea might be the sure-fire solution.

  15. Just popping in again to cheer at you. You are not alone in facing writers blocks. They are hard and discouraging and can even be depressing. While I’m not writing my own book, I am writing a ginormous publication for my job and if I don’t take it bit by tiny bit, I tense up and practically cry at the thought of all there is to do in such a short time. Here – I’m not linking up to Tuesdays Unwrapped this week, but I’ll share this with you here because it relates: http://www.clarity-chaos.com/2010/04/meeting-my-edge.html

Keep it up, my friend. You’ll get there, and you’re doing awesome.
