a worthy hero

He figured if he was going to see Toy Story 3, then these two sure would love seeing all their friends up there. And so they came with us. During the movie, he sat quiet and wide-eyed next to Woody and Buzz. They were quiet and wide-eyed, too.

He has never been taught how to love something. I have never had a logical conversation with him, teaching him what it means to adore a hero. He does that all by himself. Because he was created to worship. And so were you. I don’t care who you are or what you believe, you worship something. You may not call it that and you may not even recognize it, but the need to ascribe worth to something (or Someone?) is innate. Don’t you think?

Such a well written post. Our souls were created to worship & desire & commune with God. If we choose not to, our souls will then have need for something to “fill” that gap. Which could result in serving other things. Including Woody :) Yes, it is innate, our Creator intended it exactly that way. Great post!

    yeah… i think.

heard the movie was great… i hope all three of them loved it!

Yep. I think you just may be right.
It is a need. To know, if we lay down our head, close our eyes and throw open our souls, that we will not sink to the bottom, but be held softly until we find our feet again.

Yes, I think so. Your litte one with his Buzz and Woody reminded me of my now 18 year old who was 7 when Toy Story 2 was released. We left his toys in the car though. Why? I can’t remember exactly. Now our youngest is 8 and can’t wait to see the third one with his older brother. Time…

I second what Julie says. It says a little something about our God that He never demands worship, but patiently and lovingly waits for us to channel that innate desire in the right direction.

What a precious boy! I can just picture him sitting there, still and wide-eyed, and it makes my heart swell, because I have seen my own son do the same. Love and blessings, Emily!

  11. I think that comes from bearing the image of God. we were meant to be one with Him, as we are intimate one with our husbands – “with my body I thee worship.” whether we know it or not, we are wired for pursuit of that oneness…

First of all, that is one darling little boy! You are absolutely right Emily. There is always something in our lives that we worship and it isn’t always what it ought to be. Thank you for such a precious way to think about it.

  15. Hi Emily – thanks for this post. It’s funny you posted this right now. I’ve been feeling so scattered as the kids finished their school year. The way I deal with stress is sometimes to throw myself into other projects, so I’ve been working extra hard on my life coaching. Which is really ironic, of course… for me to throw myself off balance in order to cope with my imbalanced life! Nice. Anyway, God was working on me in just the area you wrote about – for me, worshiping finding/making structure in the chaos of the end of the year. Enough of that! Back to my first love….

    Blessings to you, my friend!

Would you believe I just read an entire chapter about that less than an hour ago? It’s in “Shepherding a Child’s Heart” by Tedd Tripp. Since I had a double dose today, guess it’s something the Lord really wanted to impresson me!

And your little man is absolutely adorale, especially with his little heroes. : )

  24. Richella says:

I do think. I most certainly do think it’s innate. And I thank God for putting it there.

YES!! I agree wholeheartedly! I’ve just never thought of it that way before…that our childrens’ obsessions with superheros and the like stem from their need to worship. Oh Lord help us point them ultimately and ever to You!!!!
