Compared to real baseball fans, perhaps I’m not legit. I don’t have a team I root for, I’ve only ever been to one major league game, I’m not confident in all the baseball rules. But I love a baseball game.
I grew up going to minor league games with my dad. When we moved from Indiana to Iowa, we would watch the Quad City Angels play at a stadium right on the Mississippi River. Maybe that’s where the love started.
The Man and I went to a game the other night. I loved being outside and listening to the baseball sounds as the day and night switched places. As I ate my hotdog (with mustard), I thought about the built-in margin baseball has and I had a fleeting fear that maybe the world doesn’t have the patience for it anymore.
And so today I embrace this most favorite part of summer that encourages slowness and space. What are you embracing today?
Is there a moment you would like to unwrap here with us? The guidelines for Tuesdays Unwrapped are here. In summary, link up with the permalink to your unwrapped post, or your link will be deleted. Where did you live in Indiana?
I love baseball, from pee wee league all the way to the majors. Your pictures are wonderful!
We lived in Columbus. Southern-ish. And thanks for the photo compliment. Out of all the ones I took, these were about the only ones I liked!

Hi Melissa!
My favorite lens is my Nikon 50 mm. That’s the one I took with me to the game. Takes fantastic evening shots.

I love baseball. There is nothing better than a summer night filled with a ball game and the fresh air. This really makes me want to get to a game.

Baseball–a wonderful summer activity. I do love me some baseball (major and minor league), and it’s a good thing, since I married a guy who was named after Stan Musial (and is also nicknamed The Man, as was Musial) and played baseball from pee-wee through high school, and was even scouted by the pros. He made a life-changing decision instead. Now, as fate would have it, part of our retirement activities include plans to visit every MLB park in the nation (and sampling the food, of course!). We’re working on year #2 already. Like I said, it’s a good thing I love baseball.

I’ve never thought of baseball as a sport with margin. That’s interesting- I can see what you mean.
Beautiful photos! I love them all. If you’re looking for a major league team to root for, might I suggest the Cubs? They have not won a World Series since 1909, yet inspire extreme loyalty in their fans. They are the ultimate team for optimist.

I just found your blog and thought I’d join in to your link party.
I’ve never been into sports. But since actually going to a few Baseball games–I’ve had to admit to having a good time. I think it far more entertaining than football or basketball. Those are great pictures by the way!! Thanks for sharing.
I don’t have a moment to unwrap or even a moment to think about unwrapping anything this week . . . funny, though, that just coming here for a moment makes me feel as if I’ve taken a deep, refreshing breath. Your blog is the very best at living up to its purpose. Thank you for providing a place for my soul to breathe.

We are a baseball family, and part of my love for it is the same as you described. It is slow, and methodical – and it is a gentleman’s sport. We’re going to a game on Thursday – can’t wait!

No way! That quad cities stadium is where I watched my first ever baseball game with the boy I would end up marrying one day. And that view over the river – never has baseball looked so good.
Hey there– I forgot to tell you my hubs is from the Quad City area-Milan
You take me straight to the ball field…thanks!

Oh, I love a baseball game too, even though I don’t really know the rules that well and don’t care!
We have a local minor league team and I so enjoy going with my husband and my youngest. I love the slow nature of it, the smells and the tastes (peanuts in the shell-yum!) but most of all I think I love the cheering crowd. It’s so cool to feel part of the team, doing the wave, playing the silly crowd games, lunging for free tee shirts the mascots throw out. It makes me feel like I’m really part of this smallish town we live in, and that’s so valuable! Everyone wants to belong!
I hated baseball when I was young. It was so slow. Then I grew up, got married, and had a son who was toting around a baseball and bat from the age of one. Baseball is one of my favorite sports now. Funny, I just love the slowness of it.

i absolutely love the sound of a baseball game. being born & raised in georgia, the sound of our atlanta braves is my favorite. i crawl into bed each night to read. i’m not a tv watcher, at all. but i love to have the braves on in the background. its such a calming sound to me.
We have a little league field across back alley behind our house — grown-up players have games there in the evenings, too. All summer long I hear crack of ball against bat — lovely summer sound! We first looked at this house in April, and the minute I heard the ball players through an open window, I knew I wanted to buy the house!

Just home from 10 days in Cambodia. Not letting myself catch up on all your posts, because, well, I just can’t. But I skimmed. And I read the one about your book about doing you in.
Just wanted to let you know I believe in you. And that I prayed for you just now. Have an awesome day!

Like you, I love a good baseball game! And by good, I mean taking it easy, relaxing and chatting with whoever’s with you, enjoying the slow pace, unwinding. Maybe even throwing in some tasty snacks

ah, baseball games. i think i have attended one professional game, one semi-pro, and while i’m lukewarm on the game itself, i have a thing for the ambiance and the hot dogs. nothing beats a baseball-stadium hot dog.

Doggone it if I didn’t try to select a pic for the thumbnail and it wouldn’t let me again! I will figure this out, I promise. I am way late in the game today but wanted to take part. I look forward to this every Tuesday. Thank you for the gift that you are, Emily!
Well, I take that back. It did let me. Off to unwrap everyone’s treasures!
I don’t watch baseball on TV but I do love the event of a real baseball game…partly because it’s one of the only sports that’s slow enough for me to follow…and definitely because of the hot dogs with mustard. : )
