31 Days of Grace :: {day 16} the reason it’s so hard

The reason it’s so hard when they fight in the morning over socks and Cheerios, when he doesn’t notice all the things you have done that day, when she speaks without thinking and overlooks your feelings, when the telemarketer calls eventhough you’re off the list – the reason it’s so hard to extend the gracious hand is perhaps because you have refused the hand extended toward you. It is never more difficult to show grace than when I refuse to receive it.

  1. Like I posted on yesterday’s post… another round of refreshment, found here.
    You know… I don’t know if I’ve thought about it like that before; me NOT recieving grace – by my own refusal. I’ll have to ponder that one for awhile. It’s nothing but the truth…

  2. That is absolutely right! After accepting grace from myself extending grace to others is so much easier. Thank you for posting about grace this month.

  4. I do believe it’s hard to extend grace when one hasn’t received it. For so long I didn’t know how to extend grace or the beauty of grace because so often I wasn’t shown grace from those around me nor was I truly taught what it was. Now that I see how much grace has been given to me it is a joy to give it to others.

  5. So true. Receiving grace is humbling and puts us in the right frame of mind to extend it to others.

  6. How true it is….. all the craziness of the day can get in the way of us recognizing and accepting God’s Grace.

  8. Yup.

    He gives – and we keep on saying – no, I’ll get this one, you get the big ones.

    But he is God of the tiny, as much as the towering.

    On the nose Emily.

    Thank you

  9. I am new to your blog and I LOVE it. Wow. I linked it to my own newish blog, by the way. I love the refreshing look of your blog and your writing is beautiful, both of which reflect your beauty inside. Thank you for generously sharing it.

  10. Exactly. And when I notice I am having trouble loving the way I would like to, I usually realize (slowly) that I’m not letting God love me.
