This world is filled with trouble, the kind that starts in your heart and works its way out through worry and fear and disappointments. The kind where all families have left of their loved ones is a name on a memorial. And they lay tired hands on top of the letters and pause in the quiet to remember. For when you have so many words but not one thing to say, when you want to convince her everything will be fine even as you doubt it yourself, when you long for a soft bed and a bowl full of chocolate; for when the world has you backed into a corner, when you want nothing more than to be understood, when you wake in the morning overwhelmed with the weight of worry — take heart and know that you have a God who has overcome the world.
“Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
Do you need an overcomer this Monday? Where are you looking for victory today?

If you haven’t a copy of Grace for the Good Girl yet, head on over to Holley Gerth’s blog where she is giving some away!

NEEDED this verse today! My girl, the one i am mentoring through anorexia, is struggling in a mighty way. she does not want to choose life. remembering that HE has overcome the world is refreshing to this weary soul.
blogged yesterday that because of Christ’s work on the cross death has lost it’s sting. Life triumphs. I choose to claim that truth today!
Amen to that, and thanks for keeping Truth at the forefront of our minds. Since returning from an orphan care trip to Ukraine a couple weeks ago, I’ve been really struggling to get my overwhelmed heart back under control, so I appreciate this precious Truth reminder today.
your words, and His, are peace to this life-worn heart this morning…
I’m looking for victory over condemnation. The lies of the accuser must be silenced in the name of Jesus!
Thank you for your encouraging words. He has overcome the world … thanks for reminding me
This is so timely for me this morning. Thank you.
These words are so timely today. Thank you, Emily for such a beautiful reminder. Visiting your blog and reading your words is like visiting with an old and dear friend. They are always so welcoming and comforting.

We serve a God who has overcome the world! That truth speaks loud and clear to me this morning. Thank you for this reminder. Many blessings!
This is all me today. Last night disappointment stuck his foot in the door of “life is great” and wreaked havoc after forcing his way in. He slithered out just as quickly and left the real trouble behind… exposed unmet expectations and misperceptions scattered all over the floor. “But take heart, because I…” That “I” is a good, good word.
Emily- I have so much on my mind today ,that this was perfect for me to read. Thank you from the bottom on my heart.
Hugs & thanks,
Have a pretty day!
Kristin
Today of all days, I needed these words…today as heart aches with unshed tears & eyes burn from too many tears shed, as I miss the other half of a 25+ year friendship, as I look for words where there are none to comfort the fiancée who would have married my friend this past Saturday. I am infinitely glad that God overcomes, because I cannot on my own. Thank you for reminding me.
Emily, thank you for speaking the truth to this tired heart. It was much needed!
Oh Emily, do you realize I leave your blog encouraged every-single-time I visit? I always find heart refreshment here. Today I’m looking for strength to let go of this status quo live I’m living.
Darn! Wish I could edit my comment or I would at least read before posting. It should say status quo life not live
My seems so overwhelming at times, but I am so comforted by God’s strength. I know it’s cliched, but I love this saying, “If God brought you to it, then he’ll bring you through it.”
You say it so well….. “take heart…we HAVE a God.” We do. We do. Thank you Lord that you are always with us.
I needed your eloquent and heart-piercing words of truth today. I am indeed overwhelmed, yes, but now even more overwhelmed to be reminded that My Savior and friend is also my Conquering King! Thank you, thank you Emily…
Thank you, Emily. My sweet friend began fostering two siblings last week. She’s weary and I’m devoted to praying for her, lifting her hands as she seeks to do all she’s called to do.
‘My hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.’ That was my song yesterday. …..
Emily, I am loving your book. Today at lunch in a busy busy Moe’s on Monday, I read on page 110 “Could it be true that God has more that he isn’t giving?” and I had to stop and put the book down … put my food down … and have a quiet moment. It stopped me dead in my tracks.
This week should have been full of anticipation and excitement…instead, each day has a scheduled challenge and the coming weekend…how do you spend the weekend you should have been welcoming your daughter into the world?
I’ve been reading for some time…silently. Thank you, Emily.
I’m not really asking…just posing the question to the heavens.
Thank you for this. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
